30til30: Day 7

I have 30 days until I turn 30, so I thought I'd try to choose 30 moments that have helped shape who I am and want to be. Coming up with the list has been challenging...and enlightening. These are in no particular order.

7: Dave's meta-surprise trip to England.

Most people who know me already know about this. Here's the story in full, if you want the inside scoop. Basically, Dave took me on the surprise trip of a lifetime to England where he proposed. I'm pretty sure that can't be topped. What I remember most vividly:
  • An abrupt stop to breakfast with Molly...in fact, I remember just staring at each other for a good 30 seconds.
  • Sitting alone and crying (frustration and fear) in the Minneapolis airport while Dave was "unavailable" to talk.
  • Seeing Dave and Chris at the airport and neither of them saying more than two sentences at a time to me as we walked around the Atlanta Airport.
  • Calling my mom and crying because I was so scared about flying overseas.
  • The Delta "Business Elite" experience.
  • My first moments on the wrong side of the road.
  • Dave proposing...and then a guy on a bicycle riding by yelling, "Don't do it!"
  • Fish and Chips.
  • The awesome hostel.
  • When Carrie Mason fell in a puddle and it looked like she peed her pants.
How it shaped me:
  • I realized that I don't do well when I feel like I'm out of control. I still don't...but I try not to let it ruin my experiences.
  • I definitely got bit by the travel bug. At this point, even a road trip to Cleveland excites me.
  • Umm...I married the best guy in the world.
